The Diplomatic Academy, in partnership with Qatar University, concluded the Art of Negotiation program, which lasted for 5 days during the period from 2 to 6 June 2024. The program was presented by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, Dr. Naji Sabry, with qualitative participation from the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the Lebanese Republic, and the British University of Newcastle. The program included how to successfully manage the negotiation process in all its stages and aspects to achieve the goals of the concerned party. First: The status of the human communication process, of which negotiation is one of its most prominent applications in human life, and its connection to the development of human civilization. Second: A historical overview of the development of the practice of negotiation at the state level since prehistoric times, through the Arab Islamic state during the era of the Prophet (PBUH), then Europe until the modern era. Third: The negotiation process Preparation and planning stage for negotiation Fun negotiation Post-negotiation stage It enables participants to realize the importance of the process of human communication in human life and meeting their crucial and basic needs, and the place of human communication in the path of development of human civilization. Understanding the historical development of the process of practicing the negotiation process in ancient times, at the beginning of the Islamic era and in Europe, up to the modern era. Understanding the necessary negotiation preparation and planning steps in its various aspects, before heading to the negotiating table Identify the conditions for selecting a qualified negotiator to lead the negotiation team to represent the country or organization, the conditions for selecting members of the accompanying negotiating team, and the methods for selecting and managing external experts and advisors. Realizing the importance of logistical aspects such as choosing the location and timing of the negotiation sessions Learn how to initiate the negotiation process. Understand the strategies necessary to manage the negotiation process successfully. Understanding the most important strategies necessary to reach an agreement that guarantees the interests of the concerned party, As well as the appropriate strategies for each case and each situation that arises during the negotiation process. Practice the communication skills necessary for a successful negotiator. Understanding ways to confront blockages in the negotiation process. Understanding how to act when concluding a final agreement, and strategies for dealing with the opposing team and the subject of the negotiation in the event of failure to achieve the agreement. Identify the appropriate strategies for the behavior of the negotiating team and its organization in the post-negotiation stage in cases of agreement or disagreement. At the conclusion of the program, the trainees receive a certificate of completion of a training course from the Diplomatic Academy and from Qatar University.
